I had ovarian cysts removed a few months back. Could this effect my chances of having a child later?

On September 1 of ‘08 (yes, labor day) I had two ovarian cysts removed. Now I have more, and I am being put on meds to control them. Could the surgery I had before effect my chances of having children later?

Yes it does some, but the polycystic ovaries do more damage than the surgery to relieve them. You need to work with the doctor to find a way to help prevent them forming. Usually that means taking birth control pills to stop ovulation, until the time arrives when you want to try to have a child. The more ovary you preserve, the greater the chance of that happening. You need to consider that surgery was needed to remove the cysts- and without the surgery the damage would have been even greater. Surgery isn’t the answer each time- the answer is to try to prevent the cysts from forming to start with. The more often you have multiple cysts form, the more damage that gets done. Surgery just removes them, it doesn’t repair the damage they did.
